Public Schools, the Director of Family Guidance, and the Lead Pastor here at
North Way as we heard a 'full review" and summary of the work of the LAMP
(Learning and Mentoring Partnership) ministry in Homewood.
The objective statistics are amazing. Achievement is "up" in every category
where students were connected to mentors/tutors. Attendance was remarkable;
even 'tardiness' was greatly reduced. (We now have five years of data!)
Children who had the experience of being teamed up with a tutor or mentor
showed dramatic improvement, across the board. The other factor that was cited
was the consistency of the North Way volunteers: at least 100 strong for five years!
None of this was any commentary on the 'subjective' input; the moral and spiritual
conversations and values that have been shared over the years. It is clear, however, that not only minds, but hearts are being changed by this incredible ministry to the inner-city.
The purpose of the meeting was to determine how to go on, despite limitations,
so that more children can receive help; and more churches will get engaged.
The fruit of this labor is magnificent. All we need now are more folks to go in
and make the investment to change a child's life.. forever! Let us know if you
want to learn more!
Pastor Jay
