New Life!

Every dad who has had the privilege of being in the delivery room when
one of their children was born, never forgets that moment. Even though
mom did all the work, dad shares in the joy of a new being; the incarnation
of months of dreaming, preparing and praying. What joy fills his heart!
That happened for me today, not in a physical sense of course, but at the
'birth' of our new East End campus of North Way. It's been about a two year
'labor' to finally get a location, all the permits, establish a team and launch
the church; but oh, how glorious! The 'theatre' was nearly full; kids packed the
lobby space and a spirit of love and cooperation was everywhere.
This 'multi-cultural' work, in one of the recovering parts of the city, is going to
have a unique personality. The worship team was diverse, as were the greeters,
ushers, staff and worshipers. That made the experience all the more rich and
rewarding knowing the power of the gospel was already at work to accomplish
things in the community that others have been laboring to see for decades:
reconciliation, repentance and renewal.
Every birth has a little mess to it; but those things quickly fade when seen next
to the reality that about 300 people came together today to celebrate what God
wants to do through them in the coming years. As a small contributor to that process, I will never forget the joy and promise of the 'birthday' of the
East End Campus of North Way Christian Community.
With amazement!
Jay
