An Essential Dynamic to Grow in Faith

For the past weeks we’ve been studying the book of Acts and particularly how the Apostle Paul and his companions were absolutely resolute in their commitment to share the Gospel.

Week after week, we read of obstacles; some of them simply geographical and political, but many of them defined as “spiritual.” In Acts 17, 18 and following, we see time after time how Paul had to overcome these obstacles in order to make disciples as was his commission given by Jesus.

The more I’ve studied, read and listened to the messages, I see this dynamic of investing in another life; making a disciple who is a committed follower of Jesus is essential if we are to continue to grow in faith. Sadly, too many people find themselves intimidated by the great commission or simply “not interested.”

The converse is true. People who are making disciples can’t get enough of it! The reward is rich as people begin to engage in a life of following Jesus and also begin to share their life of faith with others.

And so it continues. These “commandments” of loving one another, sharing our faith, sharing our goods and resources, are not just so that others can benefit; they are so that we can become more like Christ! I’m not sure why that’s so hard for us to embrace, but may the Lord grant us grace to do so. 2 Corinthians 12:9-11 say it best.

Blessings,

Pastor Jay
