In the Night Hours

Scripture says that the Lord gives His loved ones rest and that sleep is evidence of the peace of God in your heart.

There are also those times when the Lord awakens you for the purpose of prayer or a particular burden on your heart. Has that happened to you in recent times?

It can be rather odd as the natural desire is to want to sleep because you know all the responsibilities you have in the day ahead, but in your heart you can't resist the tug of the Spirit to be alone with God when there are no distractions, no outside noise or even visual things that pull you away from concentration on the heart of God. This happened to me last night and I must say that though my day will be longer and perhaps more difficult, the richness of listening quietly to His inner voice makes any physical discomfort pale in comparison.

Be sensitive to those promptings. Scripture is full of illustrations of times when men and women of God spent seasons of prayer in the night with the Lord. It can be a mark of maturity in some ways and a sign that you are "keeping in step with the Spirit"(Galatians 5:25).

Blessings,

Dr. Jay
