By now, most of you have read or at least heard of Randy Pausch and his amazing experience chronicled in his national best seller “The Last Lecture”. Dr. Pausch was a professor at Carnegie Melon University and just recently passed away from pancreatic cancer.
In his book he has so much practical wisdom that I just want to tweak your interest enough to read the book. One of them has to do with having a “realistic” or “uninflated” view of yourself. It’s not lacking self confidence; it is, however, about not being too crazy about what people think about you.
He writes, “After I got my PhD, my mother took great relish in introducing me by saying; ‘this is my son. He’s a doctor, but not the kind who helps people.’”
The Apostle Paul said it this way: “look out for the interest of others more than you do of yourselves.” (Phil 2:4) Its simple wisdom I guess but one that parents in particular need to pay attention to these days. All of us need a healthy dose of real perspective because pride is the most subtle of enemies to thwart God’s purposes in our lives.
Blessings,
Pastor Jay
