My Gift Is

I had lunch this week with a really terrific young professional. This is a man that I’m sure God is going to use mightily in the years ahead as he continues to cultivate his passion for Christ and openness to the leading of the Spirit.

The part of our conversation that was most intriguing to me was the fact that he had sought to identify his spiritual giftedness. Most believers don’t ever think in those terms. They tend to wander in the wasteland of not knowing what they’re called or gifted to do and therefore never really rise to their place of true fulfillment or effectiveness.

Perhaps the most interesting part of our exchange was that after 40 minutes of describing ways that he had exercised the gift of faith, he identified his primary gift as something much less visible.

All spiritual gifts are valuable and all are important, but some are more rare and needed in the body of Christ. Let’s not be afraid to believe that perhaps God wants to prepare us for exercise of those kinds of gifts in order to build up the body and help others to soar in their faith.

By the way, do you know your spiritual gift and are you exercising it?!

Blessings,

Dr. Jay
