Last evening, in one of my small groups, we had an extensive dialog about the “power of agreement” as referred to in last weekend’s message from Matthew 18:19.
What we decided to do was put that simple principle that Jesus laid out of when “two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven” to the test.
In my experience, the most powerful opportunity to exercise the principle of agreement in prayer is with your spouse. If your marriage is healthy and you are communicating well with your spouse, you should have as close to “perfect agreement” as any relationship on earth. So… we decided to determine one item that each couple would agree upon and then have the six couples in our group all begin to pray for that particular item or issue.
I hope I’m not losing you, but the idea is that we’re going to see if “agreement” really does matter when it comes to prayer. These will all be issues that have been “stuck” or seemingly unresponsive to individual prayer up until now.
What an exciting adventure it is when others can agree with you and how awesome it is that we have a God who stoops down to touch us at a point of real simple principles for living!
Blessings,
Dr. Jay
