Embracing Stability

There’s a lot of talk these days about the tendency of the “emerging generation” to not see corporate worship as a primary component of their spiritual journey, but rather their engaging in acts of social justice and serving the oppressed as primary to their journey.

Although there’s absolutely nothing to argue about in terms of the validity of those acts, there is no conceivable way that they replace the gathering of God’s people to worship our Savior in one accord (see Acts 4) and to embrace the Word of God as it is taught under the anointing of the Spirit.

It would seem like these should be things that would not even be questioned and yet they are. Some have pointed out that the early church didn’t have “church” but that discounts the references to the corporate gatherings of the believers “in the temple courts” and other public squares where they met to celebrate and affirm their calling of grace in Jesus.

I trust that this weekend you’ll make an effort, despite obstacles and circumstances, to gather for corporate worship as a statement of priority, public identification with the people and your own personal edification. It is a tradition that goes beyond something of culture. It is biblical and it is deeply satisfying when the Holy Spirit brings the presence of God into those moments.

Blessings!
