Finding Common Ground

One of the things I’ve discovered over the years is that there are many people in our community that have the same goals, vision and even passions that we do here at North Way, that don’t share our faith.

It is one of the joys of ministry to be able to sit with folks of different backgrounds, or no faith at all, but who really care about people, and try to find ways to work together to effect change.

In the same way that Jesus was not judgmental of those who were “spreading the word but not of our company” as it says in the gospels, so we too would do well to gladly align ourselves with those who care about the poor, the disenfranchised and those who need support, and yet come at it from simply a secular point of view.

The beauty of this is when they realize that you’re not “out to change them”, but simply there to care with them; the entire tenor of the conversation changes and people recognize that we really do have a lot in common!

That’s an experience that we need to be building into as we move forward and realize that as the culture changes, it is the church’s mission to engage people where they are and trust that the Lord will make those “divine appointments” when the true nature of the Gospel can be shared.

Blessings,

Pastor Jay
