One of the most important principles of prayer is that of persevering in your requests before the Lord.
This is widely misunderstood as somehow trying to convince God that you really need to have your prayers answered when in fact it's all about your willingness to trust your faith over your fears.
Silence is a time when we can choose to look to God and believe that whatever the circumstances are saying to us, He is in control and will bring to pass that which will complete His perfect will for our personal lives as well as our corporate life as a church.
I recently experienced a little of this as we've been seeking a worship location for our next campus.
After repeated rejections and many surprising "no can dos", we went back to a former place where we had initially been told that "it wouldn't work there." To our surprise, they've rethought the situation and are now considering opening their doors to us!
I wonder what would have happened had we given up and not thought about persevering and believing God instead of our fears.
This is true for many of us in lots of different ways. Perseverance (Luke 18) is one of the jewels of character that the Lord wants to build in us and "asking" is something that the Lord says He will honor.
Have a blessed weekend!
Dr. Jay
