In my studies this week, I've been impressed on multiple levels, both emotionally & spiritually, with just how much Jesus desires for us to experience "the unity of the faith."
Unity is a word that can be tossed around and means very little if it's simply "a decision to get along."
I've come to understand unity as the outword expression of the inward conviction that we are to "love each other as Christ loved us."
Unity comes when we seek to put the needs, perspectives and even desires of others ahead of our own. (Phil. 2:4)
Unity is something we love to experience whether it be in our homes and families, our place of work or business, our campus or school environment, and most certainly our own local church.
Unity is not easy to sustain in a world that puts such incredible demands on our time, values and resources. However it's the final prayer of Jesus for His followers "that we might be one even as He and the Father are one." John 17:20
Think about your world and where perhaps that unity has begun to erode and think of at least one way you might invest some of your love into that situation to bring unity back into clear focus.
I'm excited about what possibilities that brings.
Remember the psalmist's words "Behold how good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity." Psalm 133:1
Blessings,
Dr. Jay
