Over the past 15 years I've had a bi-weekly meeting (during the ministry season from September -May) with the local pastors within a 10 mile radius of my home church, North Way (Wexford).
Initially, my intent was simply to establish a friendship with other pastors in the area, but over the years this has developed into a very important point of connection between us.
In just 90 minutes or so we are able to affirm one another in our efforts and vision, support each other in our trials and temptations and uphold each other in prayer.
We've come to believe that there is something unique that we understand about ministry that can only be shared with other pastors. Leading a church is unlike any other calling and being able to relate to men who have had a similar burden for 5, 10 or 20 years is a very welcome and refreshing and respite from the daily grind of so much of the administration that pastoring requires.
More than that, I've grown to trust these men. When people "church hop" we are quick to let them know that we've already talked to their pastor about the change and it disarms any sense of disunity or division that could be precipitated by those who think they can take their problems somewhere else and create an issue.
I'm really grateful for this time and how edified I feel, whether there is just a small group or as many as 10 or 12 men who meet on a bi-weekly basis. When we meet as pastors, Jesus is present and that makes our time a unique and rich blessing for all who participate. My hope is that you have a similar kind of support group.
Blessings,
Dr. Jay
